If you dream of dressing like a chic Parisienne this spring but aren’t sure which staples to invest in, you’re in the right place. I’ve curated the ultimate French spring capsule wardrobe that’s as elegant as it is effortless. It includes everything from printed dresses and romantic blouses to sailor jeans and cap-toe flats—all French girl favorites for springtime. I’ve also put together outfit ideas to inspire your seasonal style. With just a few key pieces, you’ll have endless combinations that look très chic without trying too hard.

This season, I’ve been particularly drawn to shades of green, styled with timeless neutrals like black, white, beige, and brown. Inspired by Longchamp’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, this capsule wardrobe has a similar countryside aesthetic—earthy tones, delicate florals and woven textures—all while maintaining a sense of Parisian sophistication. And whether or not a city escape is on the calendar, these rustic yet refined influences will certainly freshen up your spring wardrobe.

It’s time to leave winter behind and welcome warm, sunny weather with a simplified wardrobe. Ahead, I’m breaking down my French spring capsule for 2025, complete with some of my favorite finds from Sézane, DÔEN, and Reformation that you can rewear well beyond the season.

What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a thoughtfully curated collection of style staples that will make getting dressed easier and more intentional.

Instead of being overwhelmed by seemingly endless options on what to wear, a capsule wardrobe lets you focus on essentials that can be easily mixed and matched. By building a capsule wardrobe, you streamline your closet with items that you truly love and that reflect your personal style.

Another plus is that by investing in key pieces, you won’t have to buy an entire new wardrobe each season—everything can be worn for years to come, making it easy (and ultimately, more affordable) to look and feel your best every day.

French Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Outerwear

1. Trench coat. A timeless essential for your wardrobe, a neutral trench coat proves versatile season after season. Ideal for cooler spring days when you want the warmth without bulky layers. This A.P.C. trench coat continues to be my top pick for classic French style (and you can almost always find it on sale!).

2. Tailored blazer. A well-tailored blazer is the ultimate French girl staple for spring. I personally love a slightly oversized silhouette with just the right balance of polished and casual. Rouje is my frequent go-to for that quintessential French girl aesthetic, and their Jacques Jacket is my favorite. It currently comes in nine classic colors, including mint green, which I featured in this capsule wardrobe.

Dresses

3. Printed slip dress. As soon as the weather warms up, French girls reach for slip dresses to look effortlessly stylish. A midi length is perfect for spring’s unpredictable temps—light enough for sunny days yet easy to layer under a knit or blazer when it gets chilly. This polka dot number from DÔEN is simply stunning and will transition easily into summer.

Tops

4. Striped knit top. This pretty pointelle top is a lovely choice for springtime. I’m obsessed with all of the feminine details from the scalloped trims to the contrasting stripes. If you prefer a longer sleeve length, the Léontine Jumper is one of my Sézane favorites. The Mae Jumper is also an almost identical alternative.

5. Cotton blouse. A billowy, bohemian blouse is a spring essential that all French girls have in their closets. DÔEN’s Hardy blouse, with its cool Chloé-esque vibe, is a perfect example. Look for romantic details like lace-trimmed ruffles, pin-tucked bodices, and voluminous sleeves, or go for something bolder with an exaggerated collar.

6. White tee. No capsule wardrobe is complete without a classic white tee. I have multiples of the Sézane Conrad T-Shirt that I constantly reach for in spring. For me, it’s the perfect cut—not too tight, not too loose. H&M also has great everyday tees that look practically as chic for less.

Bottoms

7. Light wash jeans. A great pair of jeans is a non-negotiable. Flared, bootcut and wide-leg are popular styles worn by French it-girls like Jeanne Damas, Sabina Socol and Leia Sfez. I’m loving the Frame Le Slim Palazzo Jeans with Bardot pockets for that further French touch. If you're not quite ready to splurge on your denim, these mariner jeans are under $60.

8. Tailored pants. A tailored pant is a great workwear staple that you can also bring into date nights and weekend outings. They’re easy to dress up or down, while always looking perfectly put together. For this spring capsule, I’ve selected an khaki green pair, but classic neutrals like black and beige are just as timeless.

Shoes

9. Cap-toe heels. When it comes to footwear, nothing feels more French than a cap-toe heel. These Carel slingbacks are a more modest option with just the right amount of lift to keep you comfortable. Whether you're taking an afternoon stroll or sipping coffee at your favorite café, a comfortable heel is a must-have in any chic spring wardrobe.

10. Mary Jane flats. I can’t get through spring without a reliable pair of flats, and this season, Mary Janes is my silhouette of choice. Although I love a pop of color, I typically stick with neutral shades for my footwear—black, beige, and cream are all great options for this capsule wardrobe. If you haven’t jumped on the trend yet, this $50 pair from Zara is a great way to try it out.

Accessories

11. Classic bag. A versatile bag that will take you from day to night is the pièce de resistance every wardrobe needs. This spring, I’m eyeing this gorgeous green option from Sézane. The adjustable strap offers three different lengths, making it as practical as it is stylish. I also love the Grace bag from A.P.C. which has a similar silhouette and comes in a cheery green hue that’s perfect for this capsule.

12. Basket bag. Another French style staple is the ever-iconic basket bag. You can go for something completely casual (à la Jane Birkin) or more sophisticated like the Chloé Small Woody Basket. For a more budget-friendly option, the Clare V. Pot de Miel Bag is one of my top picks. At the moment, it only comes in a bamboo handle, but I’m crossing my fingers that they bring back the classic leather strap soon!

13. Silk scarf. Something floral is essential for springtime, and for this capsule wardrobe, I’ve selected a printed silk scarf from Gucci. It makes such a chic addition to your ensembles, whether tied around your neck, hair or bag.

14. Sunglasses. Last, but not least: a pair of chic sunnies. Oval sunglasses fit the French girl aesthetic, while cat-eye styles are perfectly Parisian. Ultimately, you’ll want to choose frames that flatter your face shape. Although I look best in oversized shades, I have a major coup de cœur for these slim shades from Madewell.
