Autumn is in full swing, and winter is just around the corner. If you haven’t yet sorted out your wardrobe for the colder months, I’ve got you covered with this Quince capsule wardrobe!

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know that I’m a big fan of Quince for high-quality, accessible wardrobe staples. Their $50 cashmere is one piece that I constantly recommend on my blog, and for good reason!

Since so many of you shop at Quince too, I want to help you create your own fall and winter capsule wardrobe using some of their best clothing, shoes and accessories.

I’ve created two versions of this Quince capsule—one for cool skin tones and one for warm. As someone with a warmer complexion, I try to avoid black at all costs during the winter. But, it’s so hard to find warmer, brighter colors this time of year. Hopefully, this will give you some ideas if you’re struggling like me.

Here’s how to build a 15-piece capsule wardrobe and some Quince outfit ideas that will make it easier to get dressed in the morning!

What is a Capsule Wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a thoughtfully curated collection of style staples that will make getting dressed easier and more intentional.

Instead of being overwhelmed by seemingly endless options on what to wear, a capsule wardrobe lets you focus on essentials that can be easily mixed and matched. By building a capsule wardrobe, you streamline your closet with items that you truly love and that reflect your own personal style.

Another plus is that by investing in key pieces, you won’t have to buy an entire new wardrobe each season—everything can be worn for years to come, making it easy (and ultimately, more affordable) to look and feel your best every day.

How to Create a Quince Capsule Wardrobe for Fall and Winter

Fall and winter are hands down my favorite seasons to dress for. Maybe it’s because there are fewer options, and practicality is always on my mind when dressing for colder temperatures. My go-to formula is a wool coat, cozy knit, jeans, and leather boots—effortless and warm.

This Quince capsule wardrobe focuses on those everyday basics that many of us are reaching for during the fall and winter. I’m sticking with a mostly neutral color palette that makes it easier to mix and match pieces, and thankfully, Quince has a lot of neutral, classic options that you won’t get tired of.

The capsule wardrobe features 15 key pieces: 3 pieces of outerwear, 1 dress, 3 tops, 3 bottoms, 3 pairs of shoes and 2 winter accessories which will allow you to put together several outfits for the colder months. You can easily adapt it to make it work for you too. Here’s how to build a functional, stylish wardrobe from Quince for the season ahead:

  1. Assess your current wardrobe. First, take a look at your closet and consider what you already own. Get rid of items that are worn out, damaged or simply don’t fit your lifestyle. This will help you identify any gaps and avoid repurchasing items that you don’t need. In fact, you probably already own at least a few of the items for this capsule wardrobe already in your closet!

  2. Determine your personal style. Before thinking about specific pieces, defining your personal style is so important. I tend to rely on timeless staples during the fall and winter months, so my style tends to lean more classic and minimal. Browse Pinterest, peruse all of my other capsule wardrobes, and get inspired on the look or aesthetic you want to achieve with your wardrobe this season. This will not only help guide your shopping choices but make sure you maintain a cohesive wardrobe.

  3. Choose a color palette. One mistake many of us is buying pieces without considering how they’ll fit with the rest of our wardrobe. This is why defining a color palette is so important. Not only will it limit your choices (less decision fatigue), but it will also help you focus on the colors that look best on you.

I’ve created two versions of this Quince capsule wardrobe for warm and cool complexions. Each one features neutral shades like black, brown, gray, camel, white and ivory that are so easy to combine.

If you prefer some added color in your wardrobe, feel free to choose one or two accent colors. Quince has some pieces in gorgeous shades that will complement this capsule wardrobe perfectly. Forest green, rich burgundy, and ocean blue for cool color seasons. Dogwood, chocolate brown, and basil green for warm color seasons.

  4. Prioritize quality over quantity. Focus on investing in quality pieces that will last you throughout fall and winter. Quince has so many well-made pieces that really stand out when it comes to durability and comfort. If you’re on a budget, they make it easy to build a capsule wardrobe that won’t break the bank. And don’t feel any pressure to buy everything all at once, which can be overwhelming and costly. Enjoy the process of slowly curating your wardrobe, use what you already own, and you’ll end up appreciating it even more.

  5. Plan your outfits. Create a few outfits using the pieces you plan to include in your fall-winter capsule wardrobe. This will help you visualize how the items work together and ensure you have different looks ready for different occasions. Take photos that you can reference when you get dressed or take screenshots of each piece online and use an app like Canva to virtually put your outfits together.

  6. Stay practical. Another essential step in curating a capsule wardrobe that actually works for you is reflecting on your lifestyle and day-to-day activities. If you have a busy schedule, prioritize versatile, low-maintenance items. Silk blouses and dry-clean-only dresses might not be the best options for you, but durable denim and washable knitwear might.

If you frequently attend events, ensure you have some dressier options—a slip skirt, knit dress, etc. If you work in an office, adjust your wardrobe to include more professional attire like crisp button-downs, classic sweaters and tailored pants.

Climate also plays a crucial role. In colder regions, add extra outerwear like a wool coat and include additional knits, thermal base layers, and tights for more warmth.

In warmer climates, you might swap the wool coat for a lightweight blazer or trench coat. Replace one of the sweaters with a blouse or long-sleeve top. Swap chunky boots for ballet flats or a sleeker bootie.

Quince Capsule Wardrobe Checklist

Outerwear

1. Wool coat. A wool coat is a clear essential for fall and winter. It’s classic, it’s versatile and it ensures you stay warm and toasty on the coldest of days. Whether you prefer it belted or buttoned, it’s the ultimate outerwear to elevate your wardrobe. I've opted for this double-faced merino wool notched lapel coat in black as well as this 100% Mongolian cashmere double-faced wrap coat in camel if you prefer warmer tones. Quince has so many other timeless coats to check out, and I’ve included some more of my favorites below!

2. Scarf coat. Quince came out with this gorgeous wool scarf coat that is giving major Toteme vibes (at a fraction of the price). Although it’s one of the more trendier pieces in this capsule, this coat is also incredibly cozy and chic. Warm color seasons should definitely pick it up in the caramel color, and cool color seasons can choose from shades like heather gray and black. If you prefer something a bit more classic, I’d recommend this oversized wool blazer or this short wool peacoat—both are shorter styles that are just as stylish for the fall and winter.

3. Leather jacket. Wool outerwear is a must for winter, but for some variety, I rely on a leather jacket. This shearling bomber jacket is so classic, and not to mention, incredibly warm. If you’re expecting seriously low temps this winter, I’d highly recommend a shearling jacket for both practicality and style. Quince also has a nice range of down jackets that are also worth browsing. This down puffer jacket looks just like the Aritzia Super Puff jacket but at 50% off.

For those who don’t need as much warmth, Quince has some amazing leather jackets that work perfectly in this capsule wardrobe too. Shop some of my favorites below!

Tops

4. Turtleneck sweater. High-quality basics are the backbone of any good capsule wardrobe. For the colder months, a turtleneck is one essential that I constantly reach for. Quince has some incredible cashmere and wool options that will keep you warm while looking effortlessly stylish. I personally love this Mongolian cashmere turtleneck sweater with a more relaxed fit.

5. Crewneck sweater. A classic crewneck sweater is always in style and perfect for layering on colder days. For this capsule wardrobe, I’ve chosen the Mongolian cashmere oversized crewneck sweater in charcoal gray for those with cool complexions, and the Mongolian cashmere crewneck sweater in ivory for those leaning warm-toned. There are so many different materials, colors, and styles to choose from—browse some more of my picks below.

6. Button-down shirt. As much as I reach for my trusty knits in fall and winter, I like to have a button-down shirt in my closet for more formal occasions. This cotton Oxford shirt is perfect for layering under knits or wearing on its own. A silk blouse is another versatile piece that is perfect for days at the office and even holiday parties. If you truly crave warmth, you can swap these options out for another sweater or something a bit more form-fitting like this cotton micro-rib turtleneck.

Bottoms

7. Straight-leg jeans. Every woman needs a classic pair of jeans in her closet. These high-rise straight-leg jeans from Quince are an excellent wardrobe staple at just $50, and you really can’t go wrong with a dark wash for fall and winter. If you’re not a fan of straight-leg denim, they have skinny and relaxed styles that are just as comfy and chic—ultimately, go with the style that makes you feel your best!

8. Crepe pants. These stretch crepe classic pants deliver instant polish to any outfit. They’re comfy and sleek at the same time, perfect for the office, errands and even happy hour. I’ve chosen black trousers for both capsule wardrobes, although spring and fall color seasons might check out the sand and morel colors for warmer options. I personally don’t mind wearing some black, especially if it’s further away from my face—like with pants and shoes.

9. Wide-leg pants. Bootcut and flare-leg pants seem to be making a comeback this season. I love these ponte flare pants that really elongate your legs and give you that effortlessly chic look. Another favorite is these ponte super wide-leg pants. They are definitely more exaggerated, but they remind me so much of the 70s-style trousers that I see at Sézane.

Dress

10. Knit dress. Although I tend to dress casually day-to-day, I always find myself in need of something a bit more elevated during the winter. A classic knit dress often does the trick. Quince has an excellent selection of sweater dresses, but my favorite has to be the Mongolian cashmere wide-rib midi dress. It looks exactly like the one I’ve seen from Reformation, but won’t cost you quite as much. It’s so easy to style with boots, heels or even sneakers and can easily be dressed up or down.

Winter Accessories

11. Leather gloves. Accessories become extra important as the temperatures start to drop. You’ll definitely need a trusty pair of winter gloves in your capsule wardrobe. These cashmere-lined leather gloves are incredibly chic and the perfect way to level up your cold-weather style. They come in black and brown, so both warm and cool color seasons have an option. I also love these Mongolian cashmere gloves from Quince that come in a variety of colors including neutrals and bolder shades. Whichever style you prefer, make sure to keep your hands warm this fall and winter.

12. Knit scarf. Another must-have to bundle up with this fall and winter is a knit scarf. Once again, Quince has some classic options, whether you prefer something soft fringe, ribbed detailing or blanket-like wraps.

I’ve included some of my favorite winter accessories to shop below, including some winter hats that would work wonderfully in this capsule wardrobe!

Shoes

13. Chelsea boots. Every fall-winter wardrobe needs a reliable pair of boots, and for this Quince capsule, I’ve selected a suede Chelsea boots. They’re incredibly versatile, looking incredibly stylish with any of the pants I’ve mentioned previously. For those with warmer complexions, definitely check out the cinnamon and desert shades, and for cooler complexions, you’ll want to stick with the classic black color.

14. Loafers. Loafers are the smart touch that your cold-weather wardrobe needs. Quince has a few different styles, but these gorgeous leather lug sole loafers are certainly my favorite. They’ll add a little lift while being so comfortable to wear day-to-day. I’m also eyeing these suede driver loafers that are incredibly timeless—they remind me a lot of the classic loafers from Tod’s.

15. Sneakers. Sneakers are a year-round closet staple, and for this Quince capsule wardrobe, I had to include their leather everyday sneakers. These are made for those days when you’re on the go and need something comfortable and practical. You can literally wear these anywhere and everywhere.

I hope you take inspiration from this Quince capsule wardrobe as you curate your closet for fall and winter! I know I’ll be shopping some of these basics this season.

Although I didn’t include bags or jewelry in this capsule, you can find several classic options on Quince too. They pretty much have everything you could need—even luggage and home goods!
