The French expression “coup de cœur” translates as ‘favorite’ in English and is used to describe something of strong personal affection or interest. In this month’s Coup de Cœur post, I’m sharing my favorites from May 2023.

Bisou Bisou cap. I’m loving this cream baseball cap from Le Scarf with “bisou bisou” (kiss kiss in English) embroidered in an elegant script. It’s subtle and chic, perfect to wear with any casual outfit this summer. I’m equally obsessed with their “le-weekend” cap. Every Francophile should add this to their summer wishlist.

The Frankie Shop Fiona skort. The warm weather has me transitioning my wardrobe for the summer. I recently picked up this gorgeous butter yellow skort that I’m planning to wear on repeat this season. It looks so effortlessly chic paired with a white button down and a pair of ballet flats. I also love the skort style because it feels feminine but doesn’t lack on comfort.

Raffia flats. Living in the city, I like to have a comfortable, closed-toe that I can wear during the spring and summer months. Lately I’ve been shopping raffia flats. I love how they look so sophisticated, yet summer-appropriate. The Meadow Flats from Sam Edelman are my favorite. They offer such a summery take on a classic ballet silhouette.

Tan Luxe The Water. I’ve been experimenting with different tanning products before the summer, and The Water from Tan Luxe has to be the best. The spray bottle makes it so easy to apply to your skin. I had no problems with streaks or patches, and the smell was very subtle. Definitely recommend if you’re looking to achieve a natural glow.

Playtime (1967). This month I watched French filmmaker Jacques Tati’s 1967 comedy Playtime for the first time. Set in a futuristic, hyperconsumerist Paris, the movie follows two characters who repeatedly encounter one another over the course of a day: Barbara, a young American tourist visiting Paris with an American tourist group, and Monsieur Hulot, a befuddled Frenchman lost in the new modernity of Paris. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. Definitely worth watching!

Limoncello Spritz. Last summer I was obsessed with the St‑Germain Spritz, but this year my new drink of choice is likely to be the Limoncello Spritz. It’s a refreshing combination of limoncello, prosecco, and sparkling water that is perfect to sip on a sunny day. You can find the recipe I’ve been enjoying here.

C25K running app. To prepare for my 5K race next month, I’ve been using the C25K (Couch to 5K) running app. It’s been years since I’ve trained consistently, but this program has been the perfect way to get back into the sport. There is a lot of walking in the first few weeks, which makes it a lot less daunting if you’re a beginner too. Pilates will always be my go-to form of exercise, but I think summer is a wonderful time to try out a new sport.

Redouté: The Book of Flowers. Who doesn’t love flowers in the springtime? This month I enjoyed browsing through Redouté: The Book of Flowers which showcases the beautiful blooms of French flower painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté. Named “the Raphael of flowers”, Redouté is still regarded as a master of botanical illustration. This book would also make a lovely gift for spring.
