Paris has a reputation for being super chic, but trust me, you won't see many Parisians walking around looking like they just stepped off a runway. But between the designer boutiques and luxurious department stores, where is affordable shopping in Paris even possible?

Living in France for the past four years, I’ve slowly come to know the most popular French clothing brands. Mid-range designers like Sandro and Maje have since become a mainstay in my closet, but there are many budget-friendly French labels that I also regularly shop at.

Thrift Stores

Thrift stores, known as friperies in France, offer a budget-friendly way to shop in Paris. You can find vintage stores and kilo shops throughout the city with both luxury labels and undiscovered gems at a fraction of the price.

Flea Markets

For a truly Parisian shopping experience, head to one of the city's flea markets or “puces” (literally, fleas). Here, you can find everything from vintage clothing and antiques to unique souvenirs and collectibles, all at bargain prices. Not to miss is the Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen, the largest flea market in the world. With 12 different covered markets and 5 shopping streets, you could easily spend an entire day browsing second-hand finds here. Located in the north of the city in the 18th arrondissement, the market is held every Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Summer and Winter Sales

Twice annually, France hosts major sales events - one during winter and one during summer. Across the country, retailers offer fantastic discounts on a wide range of apparel, accessories, home goods, and more. Don't miss out on this year’s summer sales, which take place from June 26th to July 23rd, 2024 and winter sales from January 8th to February 11th, 2025.

Take advantage of these periods for the best discounts on designer and high-street brands alike, but don’t wait too long. If you wait until the end of the sale season to pick up that coveted piece, there is a good chance your size will be gone. The upside of waiting is snagging items at even cheaper prices. Most brands will continue to discount items throughout les soldes.

I hope this guide to affordable Parisian shopping has given you some inspiration for your next trip to the City of Light! If luxury labels are out of your budget, there are plenty of fantastic places to shop affordably. I'm personally excited to visit Sézane during my trip to Paris this summer (and crossing my fingers that they open a boutique in Strasbourg soon)!
